KGJS wants to contribute to the protection of the environment through Green initiatives and technology.
- KGJS is presently involved in a number of activities with the aim to improve fuel efficiency, emissions, and effluents :
- Performance monitoring of underwater hull and propeller to better determine the right timing for dry-docking or underwater cleaning and type of anti-fouling paint.
- Performance monitoring of main engine to ensure efficient use of fuel and lubricating oil.
- Installation of propeller appendixes.
- Use of weather routing to ensure lower fuel consumption for the voyage.
- Development of an environmental accounting system for monitoring vessel effluents, energy efficiency and awareness on energy consumption.
- Improving our extensive on- board bilge and sludge management system.
- Testing of ballast water treatment systems to get the best systems available installed at required implementation dates.
- For newbuildings improving hull design and use of fuel efficient electronically controlled main engines.
- Building the first LNG powered cement carriers in the world, for delivery December 2015 and May 2016. The vessels are 7,300 dwt and are powered by LNG/MHO dual-fuel engine.
